I have lived my life searching for what was most important. I clarified my values and determined to make choices based on them.
I honestly believe that as I have moved from victim to thriving I am living true to my values.
As I walk through the doorway of success, I find myself in another room.
Confused, dazed, and shaken, I am faced with another existential question. What is worth dying for?
To be transparent, as an African American this question must be answered because we have had to fight for everything. Africans captured as slaves jumped from slave ships rather than become a slave for life. Slaves ran away from the plantation despite the punishment of death being realized by so many. Today we commemorate "Black Tuesday" as history, but it was life or death on that day.
So in 2023, what is worth dying for? What do I value so highly and need so deeply that I would rather die than not have it?
Sadly, I don't have an answer yet. I am working on a list of things that are
NOT worth dying for. I hope this will illuminate the way for me to find something worth dying for. In this I believe I will find a great life to live and give for a worthy cause.
